WASHINGTON, Dec 21 (Reuters) – Republicans in the U.S.
Congress on Thursday advanced stopgap legislation to keep the
federal government operating past Friday when funding expires,
seeking to avert a self-inflicted disaster shortly before the
Christmas holiday season.
